Top-Down Stripy Sweater

I never really liked winter clothes when I was younger, and then one day I realized I loved knitwear sweaters. So when I learnt to crochet I naturally wanted to crochet myself some sweaters. No doubt I'll end up with quite a few sweater patterns on here eventually, but here is my first.

Materials:

Yarn: Medium weighted yarn, I used Hobbi Tivoli XL which is now discontinued 😞

Colour 1: 100g/3.52oz or 200m/218yards (this is the white in my sweater)

Colour 2: 150g/5.28oz or 300m/327yards (this is the pink in my sweater)

Colour 3: 150g/5.28oz or 300m/327yards (this is the natural in my sweater)

Hook: 5.5mm for the main body/arms and 5.0mm for the ribbing

Needle

Abbreviations (US Terms):

ch = chain

sl st = slip stitch

ehdc = extended half double crochet

hdc = half double crochet

blo = back loop only

inc = increase; two stitches in one st

dec = decrease; ehdc two together

st = stitch

sk = skip

Notes:

- Ch 2 at the start of row does not count as a stitch

- This pattern is written in one size (size small or Australian size 8), tips for altering the size are written in italics

- Gauge: 12 st x 8 rows of ehdc= 10 x 10 cm or 4 x 4 inches

- This pattern is worked in rounds, so when changing colours, do so in the yarn over of the sl st

The Pattern:

The body

Ch 90, sl st into first ch. This is creating the neckline, so you want a ch length that fits comfortably around your neckline, you also want a multiple of 4+2.

Row 1: ch 2, ehdc in 3rd chain from hook, and each ch across, sl st into first st

Row 2: ch 2, *21 ehdc, inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

If you have chained a different number, divide it by 4 and minus one, this us the number of ehdc you do between each increase.

Row 3: ch 2, *21 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Row 4: ch 2, *23 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Row 5: ch 2, *25 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Row 6: ch 2, *27 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Change to Colour 2

Row 7: ch 2, *29 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Row 8: ch 2, *31 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Row 9: ch 2, *33 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Row 10: ch 2, *35 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Change to Colour 3

Row 11: ch 2, *37 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Row 12: ch 2, *39 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Change to Colour 2

Row 13: ch 2, *41 ehdc, 2 inc* repeat between * until end of row, sl st into first st

Row 14: ch 2, 43 ehdc, sk 43, 47 ehdc, sk 43, 4 ehdc, sl st into first st

We are splitting the arms from the body now, so stitch across until the end of the first increases from the last row, then skip to the start of the second increases from the last row.
