The River Sweater

Image
I bought this yarn without knowing what I wanted to make with it (I do this a lot and it's probably not smart). After it came I thought it might be fun to make something with some texture to it. I really like how it turned out, in fact I'm currently wearing it while I add the finishing touches to the pattern. The texture really reminds me of the way that water ripples in a river, although the blue colour may  be impacting that too. Materials: Yarn: Worsted Weighted yarn, 1200m/1312yards (400g/14.2oz); I used 2 skeins of Järbo Cookie yarn in the colour menthol. Hook: 5mm Needle Abbreviations (US Terms): yo = yarn over sk = skip ch = chain sl st = slip stitch sc = single crochet blo = back loop only flo = front loop only edc = extended double crochet ehdc = extended half double crochet inc = two stitches in one stitch dec = decrease, two stitches together. dc cluster = *yo, insert hook, pull up a loop, yo pull through two loop* three times, yo pull through all loops. Notes: - G...

Top-Down Stripy Sweater

Image
I never really liked winter clothes when I was younger, and then one day I realized I loved knitwear sweaters. So when I learnt to crochet I naturally wanted to crochet myself some sweaters. No doubt I'll end up with quite a few sweater patterns on here eventually, but here is my first. Materials: Yarn: Medium weighted yarn, I used Hobbi Tivoli XL which is now discontinued 😞 Colour 1: 100g/3.52oz or 200m/218yards (this is the white in my sweater) Colour 2: 150g/5.28oz or 300m/327yards (this is the pink in my sweater) Colour 3: 150g/5.28oz or 300m/327yards (this is the natural in my sweater) Hook: 5.5mm for the main body/arms and 5.0mm for the ribbing Needle Abbreviations (US Terms): ch = chain sl st = slip stitch ehdc = extended half double crochet hdc = half double crochet blo = back loop only inc = increase; two stitches in one st dec = decrease; ehdc two together st = stitch sk = skip  Notes: - Ch 2 at the start of row does not count as a stitch - This pattern is written in one...

Bubble Mug Cosy

Image
This bubble mug cosy is good to keep your coffee or tea warm! Made with a hole for the handle and a little dip so there's rooms for your mouth! Materials: Yarn: Medium weighted yarn, ~25g Hook: 4.0mm Needle Abbreviations (US Terms): ch = chain st = stitch sc = single crochet dc = double crochet sl st = slip stitch sk = skip bb = bubble st, *yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop* 3 times, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Notes: - The turning chain does not count as a at throughout the pattern The Pattern: 50, sl st into first ch. Or the length needed to fit around the circumference of your mug Row 1:  ch 1, sc into each ch across, sl st into first stitch. Row 2: ch 2, bb into first stitch, *ch 1, sk 1, bb*, repeat between * until end of row, dc in last st. Turn. (DO NOT SL ST, we are now creating a hole for the mug handle). If you have more space between the bottom of your mug and handle keep 'sl st'-ing until you reach the handle. Row 3: ch 1, sc into each s...

Crochet Yarn Basket, with a pocket!

Image
I have been storing all my yarn on a spare shelf in my room, but it tends to spread out . . .  a lot. I needed are more compact way to store it, so I thought a basket would be a great idea! I could have bought one and fixed my problem right away, but why do that when I could buy MORE yarn to clutter my shelf and crochet myself a basket? So I did.  I also crocheted an inside pocket, which I sectioned off for my hooks, scissors, needles and stitch markers (the latter two in their own little containers too so they don't go missing). Now all my crochet things are tidily stored in one space! The basket is 28cm/11inches wide and 18.5cm/7.25inches high. The inner pocket is 20cm/8inches wide and 13 cm/5inches high.  Materials: Yarn: Chunky yarn, approx. 500g/8.8oz or 250m/272yards. I used Hobbi Ribbon yarn, 2 skeins  Hook:  5.5 mm Needle             Abbreviations (US Terms): ch = chain hdc = half double crochet sl st = slip s...

X's Fingerless Mittens

Image
I don't know about you but my hands are always cold, but gloves or mittens make simple things like using a touch screen or typing difficult. So the natural solution to this problem, at least in my mind, is fingerless mittens.  I made these fingerless mittens about two months ago without a pattern but didn't write down what I did... oops. So I made another pair, while trying to work what I did and here's the pattern. Materials: Yarn: 10 ply/medium weight wool or acrylic yarn, ~45g/1.6oz or 71m/78yards. Hook: 5mm Needle to weave in ends. Abbreviations (US Terms): ch = chain sc = single crochet dc = double crochet  sk = skip sl st = slip stitch  inc = two double crochet in one stitch blo = back loop only xs = Cross stitch Notes: - Chain does not count as a stitch - 2 dc means dc in the next two stitches - Cross stitch = sk 1 st, dc, working behind the last st, dc into skipped st  The Pattern: Left Hand: Ch 9 Row 1: sc in 2 nd ch from hook, sc in each ch ...

The Scallop Halter Top

Image
I decided to start off this blog with a summer top, but it's still winter here in Australia so I won't be able to wear it for months. I do this thing where I buy yarn because I think it looks cool but I haven't actually figured out what to make with it yet. This was one of those times, I bought this awesome gradient yarn, but only ended up using half of it, so I only used half of the colours … Oh well I guess I'll just have to make another top with the other half 😄 Materials: Yarn: 4 ply cotton yarn, ~500m/546yards or 125g/4.4ounces; I used about half a skein of Hobbii  twister in soft classics  (55% Cotton, 45% acrylic) Hook: 3mm Needle Abbreviations (US terms): ch = chain sc = single crochet sc2tg = sc two together dc = double crochet dc2tog = dc two together sk = skip sl st = slip stitch inc = two dc in one st Notes: - 2 dc means dc in the next two stitches - Turning chain does not count as a stitch -  I have written the pattern in one size (approximately a size sma...
